Dear Colleagues,
The CIML will hold its 42nd Meeting in Shanghai (P.R.
China) on Wednesday 24 (all day), Thursday 25 (morning) and Friday 26
October 2007 (morning). It will be preceded by a Seminar on OIML D 1 Elements
for a Law on Metrology on Tuesday 23 October. A number of other meetings
(Regional bodies, OIML TCs/SCs and the OIML Working Group on Conformity
to Type) will also be organized on this occasion. Unfortunately this
year it will not be possible to provide translation into French, and so
all the meeting sessions will be held in English only.
A number of key issues will require decisions to be taken,
including the preliminary 2009-2012 Budget, the Action Plan, and several
new or revised publications.
In March this year the Presidential Council examined the
comments sent in by CIML Members concerning possible improvements in the
way in which discussions are oriented during the CIML Meetings. Commencing
this year, more time will be allocated to discussion and I invite you
to be ready to take the floor during this CIML Meeting and to present
your views on the various issues to be discussed.
It is essential that the Committee have sufficient voting
members for a quorum. Therefore:
- if you are unable to personally attend this meeting,
please ensure you delegate your vote to a member of your staff
or to a representative of your Embassy in China;
- if you anticipate that you or your delegation may be
absent during any of the CIML Meeting sessions, please give a proxy
to another CIML Member when registering online.
The BIML has prepared this web site for the Shanghai meetings
(www.oiml.org/shanghai) and registration for attendance at the CIML Meeting
and accommodation will again this year be online via the Shanghai web
site.
The deadline for registering is 10 September 2007;
if you are unable to register via the web site, please contact the BIML
and alternative arrangements will be made.
Looking forward to seeing you again in Shanghai,
Yours sincerely,
Alan E. Johnston
President, CIML
